Yy Yuan Garden • Click on any image for an larger view.

Yu Yuan is located next to Old Town and is protected by high walls. It was built by a Ming official, Pan Yunduan, for his father and completed in 1537.

Yu Yuan translates literally to "fish garden." The placement of fish here is indeed as beautiful and harmonious as any true garden. Lotus ponds with Yu, or goldfish, bridges and winding paths are complemented by pavilions, corridors and greenery. White walls topped by an undulating dragon divide the garden.
