WHAT IS TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE?
raditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been practiced in China for over 5,000 years. It is an integral part of Chinese life, dramatically different from the principles of Western medicine. The emphasis of TCM is on balance and a "whole person" perspective for total unity of mind and body. Wherever you are in your life, its possible to become stronger, healthier, more relaxed and more physically and mentally "fit" through TCM. Massage, Acupuncture, Acupressure, exercise and healing herbs are all important aspects of TCM.

Energizing Diet Fresh vegetables, essential plants, curative herbs and select meats may be used to create a special diet for a specific condition. Chinese Herbal Cuisine strengthens organs and systems, or may be designed to improve balance and well-being, (Chi). Other diets are designed to replenish your "Yin" essence with water and delicacies from the sea; or your "Yang" essence with food from the land like plants, chicken and beef. The goal is always balance.
Exercise & Movement In China, exercise and movement are an integral part of daily life. Everyone, from small children to the eldest senior citizens, engage in daily exercise. Most often, exercise is a group event, and a chance to be sociable. Tai Chi, the disciplined movement based on the philosophy of Taoism, is practiced routinely in public parks and squares.
Herbal Medicines Some of the herbal medications can be prepared for
you at the pharmacy in a ready to use form, either as capsules, elixirs or tea bags. Other herbal medicines may require refrigeration. You may also choose to prepare your own herbal medicine. This requires instruction, provided at the hotel on the day following your visit to the Yan Haung Clinical Hospital.
Acupressure involves applying pressure to the bodys key meridian points, or Reflective Areas to relieve pain and improve well being. Our bodies have fourteen Reflective Areas carrying energy to corresponding organs. Manipulation of the Reflective Areas relaxes muscular tension and invigorates blood flow.
Acupuncture works on the bodys key meridian points or Reflective Areas by inserting tiny needles into the "acupuncture points" along the meridians. By unblocking and stimulating the flow of Qi or vital energy throughout the physical, emotional and spiritual bodies, Acupuncture restores balance, thereby improving health and well being.
Chinese Massage closely related to acupuncture and acupressure, Chinese massage works on the meridian points using deep "grasp and push" or "press and rub" techniques to stimulate the Reflective Areas. It is considered effective for a wide range of health problems, and is highly regarded as comprehensive therapy and one of the fundamental arts of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Travel Tip:
When possible, its easier to transport Herbal Medicines in the prepared
formcapsules, elixirs, tea bag, etc. In the unprocessed state, some
Ingredients can be bulky before processing. Certain compresses and mixtures
are better prepared just prior to use. We suggest leaving room in your
luggage for medications. If you can, bring an empty suitcase or carry-on
specifically for medications, souvenirs and other purchases. Laundry and
dry cleaning services are available in China and quite reasonablefar
less than the cost of shipping purchases home or paying for extra luggage
on the return flight home. New airline regulations permit only one carryon
plus a purse, briefcase, diaper bag or catalogue case.
