Narrow streets and alleyways, traditional Chinese stores, restaurants selling delicious dumplings—this is pre-World War II Chinatown. Before 1911, this area was a walled city

It is easy to immerse yourself in the narrow winding alleys of Shanghai’s Old Town. Stroll through the local bazaar shops and find traditional handicrafts. Cross over the pond via the zig zag walkway (evil spirits travel in straight lines), to the Huxinting Teahouse for a snack or tea. Rest in the Garden of the Purple Clouds of Autumn and enjoy its classical Chinese landscaping.
